Pacquiao-Mayweather will eventually happen

For veteran boxing promoters Bob Arum and Don King, a battle between boxing superstars Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. will eventually happen.

Arum, who has repeatedly tried to put both fighters in one boxing ring, claimed that the much sought “Fight of the Century” is not really hard to arrange.

"That fight is not hard to make," the Top Rank Promotions chief said in Boxing Fanhouse.

Arum now works closely with King and his Don King Promotions, which is reportedly wooing Mayweather.

King said that in the end, both Pacquiao and Mayweather will eventually come to an agreement, which is something that failed to happen twice already.

"The two of them, meeting is inevitable. They should meet," he said.

King and Arum, once known for their fierce rivalry in the industry of boxing promotions, are now working in tandem to hype up the Miguel Cotto-Ricardo Mayorga fight.

‘Floyd has to say yes’

But Arum said that for the monumental fight to push through, Mayweather will have to do one thing.

“All Floyd Mayweather has to do is to say, yes, and everything else would fall into place," said the veteran boxing promoter.

Mayweather has been inactive from boxing since defeating “Sugar” Shane Mosley in May 2010. He is currently facing leagal troubles for allegedly assaulting his former girlfriend and poking his finger at a security officer’s face.

However, King is confident that the undefeated boxer will return to boxing.

"Floyd Mayweather will fight again. Floyd Mayweather, in my humble opinion, is the best fighter in the world. He can fight anybody and everybody," he said.

He added that the controversial boxer, who has a 41-0 professional record, can even extend his unbeaten run without Pacquiao.

"Floyd, if he desires, could fight every three or four months, even without Pacquiao," he said.

Earlier this week, Mayweather assured his fans that he will face the Filipino champion provided that Pacquiao gets off his “power pellets."

"I'm gonna fight the Pacman when he is off the power pellets," he said, alluding that the pound-fro-pound champion is using performance enhancing drugs.

Pacquiao (52-3-2) is set to defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight crown against Mosley (46-6-1) on May 7.

Pacquiao vs Margarito Fight Analysis

Filipino sports analyst Al Mendoza believes there is only way Manny Pacquiao can lose to Antonio Margarito on Sunday--through one lucky punch from the Mexican.

“So, ang putok lang na pwedeng abutin ni Pacquiao ay suntok. Isang lucky punch lang ang makakatama...para matalo si Pacquiao. Ganun kasimple ang laban, isang lucky punch lang from Margarito para madisgrasya si Pacquiao,” the veteran sports writer told dzMM's Ted Failon and Pinky Webb on Thursday.

Pacquiao and Margarito will battle for the World Boxing Council (WBC) light middleweight title on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) at the Cowboys Stadium, in Arlington, Texas.

With Margarito’s few “advantages,” Mendoza said it will be hard to prevent a Pacquiao victory.

“Ang dalawang pangunahing advantage ni Margarito ay ang kanyang height, iyong taas niya na 5'11" at iyong lakas din niya. Pero sa bilis, wala siya nun. Nandun kay Pacquiao lahat iyon,” he said.

Mendoza added that the Tijuana Tornado’s power doesn’t even stand a match against that of the 5’6” Fighter of the Decade.

“Ika nga, malaki ka nga at mataas, kung ang kalaban mo ay mabilis, wala rin,” he said, noting the Filipino boxer’s pluses in the fight.

“Dalawa ang power ni Pacquiao, ang bilis at lakas. Kahit san sya tumama, malakas eh,” he said.

Pacquiao’s speed will be key

In terms of speed and discipline, Mendoza said Margarito still hasn’t reached the 7-division champion’s standards.

“Ang problema kay Margarito, sugod ng sugod din iyan eh,” he said, adding that this drawback works to the advantage of Pacquiao.

“So, swak na swak sa istilo ni Pacquiao. Ika nga sa Ingles, ‘Come to my parlor.’ Pag ka sumugod si Pacquiao, wala na. Isang suntok ka lang o dalawa, laglag ka na,” he said.

Mendoza added that he is confident of Pacquiao’s sure win, given that the boxer is in the company of reliable trainers.

“Si (coach) Freddie Roach, alam niya ang paghubog ng isang magaling na boksingero papunta sa gabi ng laban. Si Alex Ariza, ang kanyang conditioning expert, ay namaster na niya ang paghulma ng boksingero,” he said.

Mendoza, who rooted for de la Hoya against Pacquiao in August 2008, declared his faith in Pacquiao continuing to make history.

“Wala pang nakakagawa niyan [8 titles in 8 divisions]. Talagang phenomenal iyan, talagang kakaibang tao itong si Pacquiao,” he said.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup is the 19th FIFA World Cup. It is the first time that South Africa is the host of this event.It is from June 11 to July 11. South Africa were selected as hosts in May 2004 over Morocco and Egypt, following a bidding process open only to African nations. Held every four years since 1930, the previous World Cup finals were held in 2006 in Germany, while the next World Cup is due to be held in Brazil.

The finals tournament sees 736 players representing 32 qualifying teams compete in games held in ten stadiums across the country for the World Cup Trophy. The 32 qualifying teams were selected from a pool of entrants comprising 204 of the 208 FIFA national teams in a qualification process that began in August 2007. With 204 initial entrants, the 2010 World Cup equals the 2008 Summer Olympics as the sports event with the most competing nations.

The finals began on 11 June with the group stage, in which the 32 qualifying teams were reduced by half by playing in groups of four teams for points over three matches per team. The 16 remaining teams advanced to the knockout stage, beginning on 26 June, which progresses as a single-elimination tournament. Ties after normal time are settled using extra time or a penalty shootout if necessary, up to and including the final match for the Cup, scheduled for 11 July at Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg. A match for third place is scheduled to be played the day before.

The US Open is unique in that there are final-set tiebreaks; in the other three Grand Slam tournaments, the deciding set (fifth for men, third for women) continues until it is won by two games.
